Cliffords Tower
York originally had two castles that were situated almost side by side with the River Ouse flowing between at the time of William the Conqueror. Clifford's Tower still remains that is open to the public.
York City Walls
Another predominant structure, or series of structures, is that of York's City Walls with its bar's and towers as well as its magnesian limestone walls.
York's Historic Buildings
Besides the Minster, Castle and medieval gateways, York consists of layer upon layers of history featured in its architecture. This gallery explores these fascinating structures.
The Shambles
Although not one of York's oldest streets, it is perhaps the most photographed and well-known streets in the City of York. The Shambles was once a street of butchers that retailed freshly slaughtered meat and sold on window-ledges.
York's Rivers
York resides on the confluence of two Yorkshire rivers, the River Ouse and the River Foss. This gallery captures these rivers as well as their structures in the City of York.
Museum Gardens
