The Shambles Photo Gallery

We take a look at one of York's most photographed streets in our The Shambles Photo Gallery. We have also included images of The Shambles Market. The Shambles was a 'street of butchers' where livestock would be slaughtered around the back of the butchers on the street. The meat would be sold as fresh as it comes on the wide window ledges. The timber-framed buildings are almost touching above you, casting shade that protected the meat being sold below from direct sunlight and heat.
